Center for Narrow Bandgap Semiconductors

To address key technological bottlenecks in optoelectronic information industry, our Center conducts research on bare die, packaged device, and integrated modules for communications and sensing. We focus on three core product lines - optoelectronic components, optical communication devices, and intelligent sensor systems. Our Center is dedicated to establish a facility for technology advancement and device integration in related optoelectronics research areas.

Research Teams:

1. Laser Diode Research Group:

Specializing in designing and fabricating high-performance semiconductor laser devices such as VCSELs, FP and DFB lasers. Our solutions include optical sources for high speed data communication, modules for gas-sensing and narrow-linewidth lasers for various applications.

2. Photo Diode Research Group:

Focused on photodetection innovation, we develop avalanche photodiodes (APDs) and multi-band detectors. These devices enhance capabilities in optical communication, weak-signal detection, and laser range finding applications.

3. Thin-Film Lithium Niobate Research Group:

Leveraging TFLN core technologies, we create high-speed optical mixers for efficient signal conversion. Our work supports next-generation optical communication and coherent detection systems.

Key Focus Area: LiDAR Core Modules

We develop eye-safe 1550 nm laser emitters and InGaAs APD receivers for LiDAR systems. Innovations in device integration, array performance, and noise reduction enable applications in autonomous vehicles (L3+), industrial sensing, and unmanned systems.

Core Competencies

Our Center excels in:

1)       Device engineering: Chip design, epitaxial growth, and process optimization.

2)       System integration: Performance validation and industrial-scale implementation.

3)       Intellectual property: Developing proprietary technologies for optoelectronic applications.

Mission

By bridging material science with practical applications, we aim to:

1)       Establish industry-leading optoelectronic capabilities.

2)       Accelerate technological adoption across research, industry, and daily life.
