The Wide Bandgap and Ultra-Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Research Center, based on the band theory, has successfully developed 6-inch natural light epitaxial wafers and chips by inventing a through barrier layer to achieve high-quality white light emission from a single chip. The natural light chip does not require wavelength conversion through phosphors, thus avoiding the pollution and efficiency issues associated with phosphor preparation and use. Both its emission principle and device structure are world-first innovations. Its spectrum is closer to the solar spectrum compared to common lighting sources. The chip features a simple structure, high stability, low light attenuation, and long lifespan. The achievements can be widely applied in lighting, backlighting, visible light communication, visual camouflage, Mini- and Micro-LED displays, sensors, and other fields, leading to technological upgrades in related industries and bringing significant social and economic benefits.
